David Elfering is an accomplished cybersecurity executive with over 20 years of experience leading enterprise security programs, cyber risk management, and regulatory compliance across global operations. He currently serves as Director of Cybersecurity at Carrix/SSA Marine, driving strategy and resilience initiatives for one of the world’s largest marine terminal operators and transportation service providers.
Before joining Carrix, David was a Senior Vice President at Marsh’s Emerging Risks Group, where he advised CISOs, executives, and boards at over 200 companies on aligning cybersecurity strategies with business risk. His work emphasized pragmatic approaches to resilience, insurance optimization, and critical risk reduction.
David previously served as the global security executive for ReSource Pro, leading ISO 27001 and SSAE18 certified programs across the U.S., India, and China, and spent over two decades at Werner Enterprises, building enterprise security governance and risk management practices.
His leadership spans cloud and AI security initiatives, maritime cyber compliance, board-level cyber risk communication, and operational security programs built on frameworks like NIST CSF. He has a proven track record of embedding cybersecurity into business transformation efforts to reduce risk and drive enterprise resilience.
David holds a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland University College and certifications in CRISC, Open FAIR, and ITIL Foundation.
